Charity Shops

We now have three Charity Shops for you!

Thanks to our fantastic volunteers and support of our customers, Ability Dogs 4 Young People now has three Charity Shops. Our original shop in Regent Street, Shanklin continues to stock interesting and varied items and it is joined over the road by our new shop occupying the old Auction House. In addition, we have a great new shop at 16 Pyle Street, Newport. All items have been donated for sale and all profits raised go to Ability Dogs 4 Young People - more details.

Wednesday 6th March, 8 pm - Mermaid Bar Quiz, Mermaid Bar, Pondwell

The third fun Charity Quiz Night hosted by the Mermaid Gin team in aid of Ability Dogs 4 Young People and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Amulance. Teams up to 6 people, £2 per person with questions starting at 8 pm.

Saturday 30th March, 10 am to 4 pm - Collection Day at Jollyes Pet Store, Newport

Jollyes in Newport are hosting another collection day for us at their large pet store on Newport Industrial Estate, behind Dabells. We will be able to tell you more about our charity and you will be able to meet some of our Ability Dogs and puppies in training. Come and have a browse round the shelves and find the perfect supplies for your pet. Any loose change will be gratefully received and we now have a new text giving number: Text Ability 3 to 70085 to donate £3 today (or any amount you choose).

Wednesday 3rd April, 8 pm - Mermaid Bar Quiz, Mermaid Bar, Nettlestone

This is the fourth fun Charity Quiz Night hosted by the Mermaid Gin team in aid of Ability Dogs 4 Young People and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Amulance. Teams up to 6 people, £2 per person with questions starting at 8 pm. There will be a break for the summer season and quizzing will resume again in November.

Saturday 20th April - Dream Rides by Sporting Bears Motor Club, The Fighting Cocks, Hale Common

Dream Rides is your chance to take a ten mile passenger ride in the car of your dreams simply for a donation to charity. As the driver is the private owner, donating their car and time for free, ALL the money you donate will be given to Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW. Come along and see the fabulous array of classic and sports cars and take your pick.

For the drivers, please contact Sporting Bears Club for more information. You too can enjoy the satisfaction of seeing smiles all round, for the drivers, their passengers, families and friends. So come and join in.

Saturday 27th April all day - Festival of Autism, County Show Ground

This is the first ever music and sensory festival for people with Autism on the Isle of Wight, and will be held in the County Showground in Northwood. Alex Watts will be hosting and it is running in association with NAS (National Autism Society) IOW branch and Ability Dogs 4 young People IoW. April is #AutismAwarenessMonth.

A passionate Mother of an almost 5 year old son diagnosed with Autism wants to make a difference, to build awareness and acceptance by holding an exciting new event where people can talk and learn in an enjoyable environment which is informative and fun for the children and families.

Alex Watts said: "Spending as much time as I do travelling the world, advocating for folks on spectrum - I am beyond stoked to have been asked to host Spectrum Festival right here on my doorstep. Having ADHD myself and growing up in an age where it was considered a hindrance, I devoted myself to educating, motivating and being a better example for the diagnosis than was previously available."

There will be fun games, competitions, prizes, hurdle races agility, displays, demonstrations, falconry shows, dog grooming, crafts and a vintage fun fair. We will be there with our fundraising games and merchandise. Come along and meet some of Ability Dog puppies in training as they will be watching all the action.

Please come and join us at our fabulous Open Day to find out more about our Charity. There will be demonstrations throughout the day showing how Ability Dogs can help disabled young people and children. There will also be demonstration puppies classes; "Here come the puppies!" As usual, we have invited other charities along, so there will be plenty of stalls, games, childrens entertainment, food, drink and more.

Sunday 30th June, 9 am until 5 pm - County Show, County Show Ground, Northwood, PO30 5TP

This year's County Show takes place on Sunday 30 June 2019. There are lots of exciting events. You can get up close, meet the animals and the action lasts all day. It is a fantastic day out for all the family, combining entertainment and fun with the opportunity to enjoy many aspects of Island country life and farming. This is the show where cattle, sheep and poultry come first with animals are at the heart of the show. Come and see the best of the Island's farm animals: cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry. There will be gun dog and falconry displays and horses galore.

Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW stands can be found next to the Dog Show and in the Village Green area. The traditional village green is the perfect place to relax, have a cream tea, enjoy the traditional side stalls and attractions, and, of course, meet some of our Ability Dog puppies...

Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th July, 10 am until 3 pm - Horse Trials, Dog Show & Have a Go Agility, Osborne House

Come and see some of the world's top riders compete at Osborne House. This is the second event here on the Island and there will be lots of equestrian action, victorian funfair, dog agility and show, array of local and national brands showcasing their products.

Like last year, we will be running the 'Have a Go Agility' and the 'Fun Dog Show' each day, and all the money raised from these activities will be donated to Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW. Come along and find us on the lawn in front of Osborne House itself. More details later.

This year's Garden Fair at Wolverton Manor is celebrating it's 20th Year! There will be over 140 amazing Island & mainland nurseries, garden & craft stalls. Classic cars, elizabethan dancing, dog agility displays & shows. Tractors, military vehicles, vintage amusements, airsoft shooting, falconry, kayaking around the moat, climbing wall, woodcarvers and lots more!

We will be there in the midst of things with our stand and our 'Wolverton Special' Bottle Tombola raising money for Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW. On the top field we will also be giving demonstrations showing how Ability Dogs can help disabled young people and children. Do come along and say hello.

Funds raised by the Wolverton Manor Garden Fair go to Age UK and stay on the Island to support local older people to live happy, healthy and connected lives. For more information including advanced tickets, visit the website at https://gardenfair.org.uk/

Another fun Charity Quiz Night hosted by the Mermaid Gin team in aid of Ability Dogs 4 Young People and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Amulance. Teams up to 6 people, £2 per person with questions starting at 8 pm. Our Ability Dog puppies in training will be there to cheer you on, so do come along to the Mermaid Bar which is a perfect venue to enjoy a hand crafted gin and is located in the pretty village of Pondwell. Mermaid gin is smooth and refreshing with a citrus zing, deep round mouth feel, long finish with a hint of sea air.
